The Great Recession is a thing of the past in Texas, according to a study by Wallet Hub.
The website ranked the economic recoveries from the Great Recession of America’s 150 largest cities by non-metro population, and Texas cities were atop the pack.
Wallet Hub used 18 metrics in its study, broken up into two categories — economic environment and employment and earning opportunities. The data used for the study was compiled from nine different sources, including the U.S. Census and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
With cities ranked from most to least recovered in descending order, Houston came in No. 18. Our lovely city finished No. 36 in employment and earning opportunities and No. 19 in economic environment.
Smaller Texas cities did better than Houston, with Laredo topping the whole list at No. 1. Irving finished No. 2, while Dallas (5), Corpus Christi (6), Lubbock (8) and Garland (9) also placed in the top 10. North Carolina was only other state with more than one of its cities in the top 10, with Fayetteville and Raleigh finishing third and 10th, respectively.
All 16 of Texas’ eligible cities finished in the top 50 of the ranking, and El Paso experienced the largest decrease in poverty rate.
